About Me

Do You Have Sleep Apnea, I Do!

Hi everyone!

My name is Shawn and I have recently been told I have sleep apnea.

About Shawn - I have Sleep ApneaIt came as no shock really! My wife suspected that I’ve had it for years, but I just recently had it confirmed.

It all started a number of years ago when I blew my knee out playing sports. Six knee operations later, including a total knee replacement and carrying 60 extra pounds due to limited physical activity has been part of the problem. My wife would say I snore like crazy at night, so I would end up sleeping in the spare bedroom so that she could get some sleep. I would wake up every morning exhausted even though I had been “asleep” for 8+ hours. Does this sound familiar to you?

The reason I created this website is to try and inform people about sleep apnea. More and more research has been proven to show that sleep apnea is a common and potentially serious disorder where your breathing repeatedly stops and starts as you sleep, resulting in insufficient “rem” (or deep) sleep. Untreated sleep apnea can be dangerous and detrimental to your health.

Follow through this website to look for more information about sleep apnea and if you suspect you have it, contact your doctor so that you can get tested. Check out the other links on this site to learn about the warning signs of sleep apnea, how to distinguish it from normal snoring, the medical treatments available, and what you can do to help yourself.

Again, my name is Shawn.  It’s nice to meet you and feel free to contact me if you ever need anything.  Drop me a comment below or you can always get in touch with me via WealthyAffiliate.com (here is a link to my profile).

All the best!

Hi Shawn.. I notice lately that a lot of people are buying the ‘Fit Bit’ and the ‘Charger’ wrist devices. They are used for counting calories, how far you walk and also how well you sleep. If you get chance you may want to do a review on one. Never thought about how they could be useful to some one with sleep apnea until I read your post.

      Hi John,
Thanks very much for the great idea. I do wear a FitBit device and it’s great for watching my sleeping patterns. I’ll look into writing a review on mine and incorporate it into my website.
      Thanks again!

    Hi Shawn.

Wow, I am really impressed with your journey, research and passion to help others on the same journey. I have suspected sleep apnea for years due to a pattern of waking up exhausted each morning. I press through with a smile and wit but it can get pretty discouraging if not debilitating.

Since I have started my own blog with the passion to help people realize that they really can make empowering choices, I have been looking at various sites to get ideas for attractive, engaging design. Yours is the best I’ve seen. And your niche is an added bonus. I’m excited to follow you as a fellow entrepreneur and to equip myself via your site to deal with an area of struggle in my health. I look forward to following you.

      Hi Brooke,

I appreciate your kind words! I hope that my site has given you some further information regarding sleep apnea. It is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I know that I was getting frustrated and discouraged before I started using my CPAP machine. It was tiring being tired all the time.

      All the best,

    Hello Shawn,

I truly love your website even though I do not have any sleep apnea. The layout looks clean and simple and easy to navigate. Although I am not an “expert” on how to build a website I am simply expressing my honest reaction as a visitor of your page. Great work! I will let people know when I ran to the ones that have sleep difficulty so they can look at your sleeping machines advertised in such a modest way.

      Hi Tim,
Thanks so much for your kind words. Sleep apnea is a subject that is near and dear to my heart as I know a number of family members and friends that have it, so it seems to be more and more common. I would be grateful if you referred my site to other people you know. To me that is a testament that I am doing something right!
      Thanks again!

I’ve never had sleep apnea, but my wife complains about my snoring when I go over a certain weight.
You mentioned being 60 lbs overweight, is sleep apnea a weight-related condition?

      Hi Phil,
Yes, from what I understand, being overweight is one of the symptoms of sleep apnea. I’m looking into various ways to loose weight.

Hi Shawn I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea 5 years ago and have been using a Cpap since then.
My wife is the one that got me to get it checked as she tired of my snoring. My Cpap is set on 10 and that works fine for me.
As a pro trucker, I didn’t want to know as it would complicate my trucking life. Fortunately, I didn’t have fall asleep problems. I am retired but try to keep my CDL current. I now have to have a DOT physical once a year to make sure I am using the Cpap.
    Nice website with valuable info.

      Hi Marty,
Thanks very much for your comments, I appreciate it! I’m glad to hear that your CPAP machine is working for you. I’ve only been on my machine since August and now I’ve been told by my sleep specialist that I need the setting to be on automatic.
We’ll see how that works out.
      Thanks again!

A very accessible site, even for those who do not suffer from sleep apnea, like me. Very understandable and clear headings. I do not know how you should further improve the site. Keep it simple seems to be your motto.

    Hi Shawn

This is a great website with an amazing amount of information about Sleep Apnea. I have learnt so much from your site.

Even though I hadn’t heard the term ‘Sleep Apnea’ I have known people who have had sleeping disorders, one with quite a severe problem who was hospitalized while the doctors looked for a solution. I don’t know whether or not it was Sleep Apnea but this person’s problem was that he was at risk of falling asleep while driving.

I think that you have done a really good job by building this website and giving people the opportunity to learn more about a condition that could be affecting their every day lifestyle.

You have great information on your website but your work count on your posts are not high enough.
Minimum 300 words per post. Ore words on the subject and tons of image’s will make the story clear to reader’s.

Wow, thanks for sharing your story about sleep apnea. Both my mom and dad have sleep apnea and have been tested. Not sure it did any good. I like the clarity of your site. And it is very easy to get around. Great information about the disorder and where to buy support items for the condition.

      Hi Kate,
I appreciate your comments, thanks! Do both your parents wear CPAP machines? I know the first time I was tested, they said that it wasn’t bad enough to warrant using a CPAP machine. This time around in January it was confirmed that I needed one and I’m glad I got one! The difference in my sleeping quality is night and day. I don’t snore, I don’t have acid reflux and I’m not exhausted every day.

    Hi Shawn,
What an informative site! I have been trying for years to persuade my husband to see a dr about his snoring and breathing problems during sleep. But he insists he does not have a problem.

I’m very sure that he does have sleep apena and reading your site has only made me even more sure.
I have recorded him and played back his snoring and breathing cycle but to no avail, he still does not see/feel that he has a problem.
I have sent him a link to your site and I’m hoping that he recognises himself in what you are saying so fingers crossed the message gets through.
Thank you for the great info.

      Hi Jenny,
First off, thanks very much for the comment! My wife felt the exact same way with me. She would record me snoring and stopping breathing and yet I would say that wasn’t me and that I didn’t snore, despite her recordings. Does he find that he’s tired during the day? I know I was and I would have to have a nap as soon as I got home from work. Since I’ve started using a CPAP machine my wife says I don’t snore, I get a great night’s sleep, I wake up in the morning refreshed, I don’t have acid reflux. In other words, it’s made a huge difference in my life by using a CPAP machine!! I hope for your husband’s sake that he does go and get tested. It can be dangerous if left untreated.
Good luck to both of you!

Very nice, Shawn. It looks to be that you are on your way to success with both the sleep apnea and your website. You’ve had a lot of people respond to it. My ex-husband had sleep apnea and had to sleep with one of those masks. I don’t know if he still has it; he has lost weight. I will tell my daughter and have her forward your information to him. Very good job. Good luck. Looking forward to meeting you maybe at the next convention.

    Hi Shawn,
Derek here, I am really impressed with your site and noticed you have quite a following. I myself are just at the starting blocks as you will probably realise when you look at my website. I had no idea it was such a problem and how it affects a vast number of people.

Thankfully I am sure I do not have the problem though I do suffer from some of the suspect ailments having had a vast number of health problems since my heart attacks!! back in 2000. In fact I was reborn on 26th September 2000 so I will be 16 tomorrow hehehehe. I had two heart attacks and a cardiac arrest over a period of 9 hours culminating with a heart stopping episode at 10.00am for nearly 3 minutes. The following day I had an angioplasty and 10 days later I was back at my desk. I am a workaholic !!

Even today I have worked up to 5am crashed out to 10am and here I am typing away at 5pm.
I might be 70 but I still have a great deal of energy only having 75% heart function so they say, high blood pressure, 5 pulmonary embolisms and have 2 cancers behind me too along with 2 or 3 other serious aliments.
Anyway I am still in the land of the living and determined to make a success of this IM business.

I hope you are well and look forward to having discussions with you in the future regarding our respective businesses.

    Kind regards,

    Derek

PS I still have to add the instructions for using my site to its fullest capability as it has over 1,000 external links !!
